Sussex Under 13 Championships and QuadKids
For budding athletes in School years 6 and 7 there is the Sussex Under 13 Championships. This takes place in late June or early July annually. The competition attracts the best talent from across Sussex to compete in a full range of track and field events for their age group. These include:
75m, 150m, 800m, 1200m, 70mhH/75mH, Shot, High Jump, Long Jump, Javelin, Discus, 4x100m Club Relay.
Athletes can compete in a maximum of three events and a relay.
From this event (and performances prior to the Championships) the Under 13 Sussex team is chosen for the inter-county regional fixture, which is normally on the last Saturday or Sunday of July.
Are you a future Jessica Ennis, Katarina Johnson-Thompson or Ashton Eaton?
The Under 11 QuadKids Championships takes place at the same time as the Under 13 Championships. It is an individual event with boys and girls in a separate competition. Each young athlete has to compete in four disciplines: the 75m sprint, Standing Long Jump, Vortex Howler throw and 600m.
There is a points table for each event and at the end of the competition all children will receive a certificate and the top three scorers receive medals.
It is always a fun competition and for many children it is their first opportunity to compete in a mini multi-events Championship.
Children mustbe aged nine by the day of competition and under 11 on 31st of August of the relevant year, thus must be in school years 4 and 5 only.
