Sussex Indoor Championships

There was a large dip in the number of senior athletes supporting these championships this year, but in total only seven fewer entrants than last year, as support from younger athletes continues to grow. Consequently most senior events and many of the U20 events were between no more than three or four contestants.

James Baker has done it again

No other Sussex runner has contested more Sussex League races than Chichester’s James Baker nor won as many League titles and he did it again at Lancing on Saturday. 

No he did not repeat his victory at Plumpton before in November, in fact his third place was his lowest placing of the season but together with his run at Plumpton and his second place over the Lancing course he took his umpteenth League title with 6 points. 

A busy weekend

A busy weekend lies ahead for athletics enthusiasts as well as athletes this weekend with the last of this season’s Brooks Sussex Cross-country League races commanding most interest among Sussex athletes. 

The County are also holding their County Indoor championships this weekend, on Saturday and Sunday at the Sutton Arena while some two hundred miles away in Sheffield the National Indoor championships, which incorporate the Trials for the European Indoor championships at being held at Sheffield, also on Saturday and Sunday.

Sussex Men Eclipsed at Chichester

Sussex runners got short shrift in the Chichester Priory 10k road race on Sunday as out of Sussex runners filled the first five places in the men’s race. 

The women fared somewhat better as Emma Macready from Worthing took a clear second place in 34:42 behind Swansea’s Elinor Kirk, who clocked 33:57 and ahead of Nicola Rogers (Colchester) who was timed at 35:47. 

Macready’s club mate, Rebecca Moore, did well to finish in fifth place in 36:09.

Surrey Schools AA have provided details of overflow parking arrangements they have been able to secure (with the requirements of parents / spectators in mind) at the offices of Canon UK, Post Code RH2 8BF, which is c15 minutes walk from the race start / finish area.
