Crisp, sunny conditions greeted runners in the third instalment of this season’s Brooks Sussex League XC at Lancing Manor. International Mountain Runner Chris Smith dominated the men’s race, repeating his victory from last year. Smith, representing his new Second Claim club, Haywards Heath Harriers, got in front and was clear of the pack after a few hundred metres. The lead continued to grow and the peloton soon knew they were in a battle for Silver.

The week before, as a dress rehearsal, the pair had gone head-to-head over 5k around Hove Park — and it was Boniface who showed slightly keener form, with a swift 15:15, four seconds ahead Rojas.
