There was another victory for Sussex Schools at Gateshead on Friday, after I had packed up for the day.

Livvy Connor from BHASVIC, who was the team captain, retained her Senior Pole Vault title so Sussex topped and tailed the first day of the Championships winning gold, through Edan Cole, in the first event of the day and Livvy Connor at the end of the day.

So late was Connor’s victory that the result was still not published until Saturday morning.

Over in Amsterdam Rob Mullett from Lewes had a fine run in the 3,000 metres steeplechase at the European Athletics Championship where he finished an excellent sixth in 8:33.29s.

Unfortunately the race was not run fast enough to pull the Lewes runner through the Olympic Qualifying standard so there will be a few days of nail biting before he knows whether he will be included in the British Olympic squad.

In the Discus final Jade Lally from Broadbridge was again over the sixty metre mark placing seventh with 60.29m.
