More Cross Country Championships Information

Despite the current wet weather, we do not anticipate having to postpone the Sussex Schools XC but should the weather change dramatically we will post news of the postponement on this, the Sussex Athletics web site. Schools are asked to keep an eye on the site prior to departure, should they be in doubt!

TV coverage of Cross Country Championships

It is possible that Brighton based Latest TV will be covering the Cross Country Championships on Wednesday at Waterhall, for their sports news programme which goes out every evening during the week at 18:20. 

Clear protocols have been agreed with the station in accordance with standard safeguarding rules, but if any parent has an objection to their child appearing in any broadcast from the event they should notify their school.

Following the AGM on Wednesday, the list of the Officers of the SSAA for 2014/15 and contact details are available on the SSAA Information page. 

Details of the Cross Country dates for 2015 and the prospectus for the Championships at Waterhall on 14 January are available on the Championships page.

AGM

The Agenda for the 2014 AGM of the Sussex Schools AA, together with the minutes of the 2013 meeting are now available on the SSAA Information Page. 

Representatives from all schools in the County of Sussex are welcome to attend, and to have their say on the organisation of schools athletics in Sussex. New and old friends and supporters will be most welcome.

President Honoured

Congratulations to our President, Reg Hook, who has been named as Volunteer of the Year at the Brighton & Hove City Sports Awards. Reg was awarded the accolade for his outstanding dedication and support of local athletics for more than 50 years. He dedicates much of his time behind the scenes to ensure others can enjoy a sport they love. Reg has been a committee member of the Sussex Schools Athletics Association for more than 50 years and President for 25 years.

New Throws Initiative

Teachers may like to know about the new Med Ball Challenge, which is a scheme devised as a great way to introduce safe throwing techniques to children and to identify talent. The Challenge includes the 5 basic throwing techniques of Push, Throw, Heave, Fling and Pitch and is ideal for P E Lessons. It can be done indoors and outdoors, is easy to set up and is all inclusive - suitable for all abilities.
