Sussex Quartet at Schools Games

Four Sussex youngsters will be heading to Loughborough this weekend for the annual School Games match.

The School Games are a national multi-sport event for the UK's most talented school-age athletes. Around 1,600 athletes from across the UK will compete in 12 sports.

UK Area School teams including Scotland clash for this end of season match and the Sussex Quartet will representing the South of England team which has largely been selected from July’s  English School Championships.

Amber and Ben Strike Gold

There was more glory and medals for Sussex youngsters at the English U15/17 Track and Field championships at Bedford over the weekend including two titles plus three Sussex records.

Again pride of place must go to U17 Worthing thrower Ben Hawkes who retained his unbeaten Hammer record this season with another crushing victory with 71.91m but he also added a silver medal in the discus throw with a personal effort of 52.70m, which is also a new Sussex record. Hawkes very nearly collected another medal in the shot putt placing fourth with 15.24m.

Tough British League Battles - Ben Hawkes

It was a tough time for both the Crawley and Brighton & Hove teams in the British Athletics League matches at Bedford on Saturday when all five matches were held on the same day and at the same venue.

In Division two the Crawley club were again involved in a nail-biting match where just 68 points covered all eight clubs with Crawley eventually finishing in third place behind Herne Hill, 311.5 points, Kingstone & Poly 294, Crawley 278 and Bristol & West 268.

Currently, with one match to go Crawley are currently lying fourth on the League table.
