Six Golds for Sussex at English Schools

A brilliant second day at Birmingham saw the Sussex Schools team record one of their best ever English Schools results beating last year’s tally of five gold medals but overall equalled the 2016 total of ten medals.

Despite the loss of three potential medallists this was an excellent result for Sussex on a weekend when there were not any real disappointments and a couple of bonus medals.

Despite all the travails that hit the Sussex Schools team at Basingstoke on Saturday there were many fine performances by Sussex athletes and several managed to achieve the standards that they had been chasing.

In the Intermediate (U17) boys age group Bailey Wright, who has been carrying all before him in the sprints in Sussex this season was an impressive winner with a personal best of 10.84s while the ever determined Joe Smith battled his way to an impressive victory in the 1500 metres in 4:02.23s with Will Broom not far away in fourth place in 4:07.16s.

Crawley go Nap in Under 15s

Both Crawley’s Katie Bristowe and Millie Noyce broke Sussex under 15 League records at the Final of this season’s League event at the K2 Leisure Centre on Friday evening.

Bristowe, who has already had a couple of bites at the Sussex record for the 75m hurdles this season.

Conditions were a bit gloomy and damp and not really suitable for breaking Sussex records but she was not far away from her best clocking 11.3s for the League while her County Records remained intact at 11.26s.
