Bronze for Becky at Oxford -Update U15 League

Becky Owen struck bronze in the South of England Combined events championships at Oxford at the weekend.

Competing in the senior Heptathlon the Brighton & Hove all-rounder was just one of four Sussex athletes in action but both Elise Lovell (Hastings) and Katie Garland (Brighton & Hove) had to withdraw through injuries and it was Owen who snatched third place with a total of 4317 points.

Beth Crocker from Crawley filled sixth place with 3572 points.

Schools Inter-Counties -UPDATE

Despite all the travails that hit the Sussex Schools team at Basingstoke on Saturday there were many fine performances by Sussex athletes and several managed to achieve the standards that they had been chasing.

In the Intermediate (U17) boys age group Bailey Wright, who has been carrying all before him in the sprints in Sussex this season was an impressive winner with a personal best of 10.84s while the ever determined Joe Smith battled his way to an impressive victory in the 1500 metres in 4:02.23s with Will Broom not far away in fourth place in 4:07.16s.

More Records on Day Two at Crawley

Just two Championship Best Performances tumbled on the second day of the Sussex Track and Field Championships at the K2 Leisure Centre at Crawley on Sunday.

Conditions were not quite as good as Saturday with a stronger, and sometimes cold, head wind slowing the sprint times and also playing havoc with the pole vaulters. Ironically one of the CBPs came in the vault.
