Fast time in Brighton 10k

It was a good day for Sussex athletes in the annual Brighton 10k road race which was held on Sunday after missing last year’s event because of severe weather conditions.

This year the conditions were good and Jonathan Hopkins from Swansea stormed away from a field that by and large lacked the quality that the race usually attracts.

He finished more than one minute ahead of his nearest rival, Crawley’s James Westlake, in a fast time of 29:40s.

Harvey Curtis Result - - Crowborough

After high winds on November 20 led to the cancellation of the Brighton 10k, the 2016 Harvey Curtis Sussex Road Race Challenge (SRRC) was forced to conclude after five races rather than the intended six.

This meant Kevin Rojas (Brighton & Hove AC) was crowned champion for the third year in a row with a total of six points from his three qualifying races, finishing three points ahead of second-placed Paul Navesey (Crawley AC). The ever-improving James Westlake (Crawley AC) finished third on 13 points.
