More National Championships this weekend

Following last weekend plethora of Indoor Championships there are even more National Championships this weekend with the ECCA Cross Country championships at Parliament Hill Fields on Saturday and the England Athletics ”Age Group” Indoor championships at Sheffield on both Saturday and Sunday.

Parliament Hill is always a tough course and it is not known how many Sussex clubs will be sending teams to the championships though Brighton & Hove are hoping to get a senior team there although several of the leading senior Sussex athletes will not be competing.

Pre-paid parking SOLD OUT at The Amex for the Southern Cross Country Champs

The South of England officials breathed a sigh of relief when the Albion were drawn away in this weekend’s F.A cup,  as it meant there would be parking at the Amex stadium for the SEAA Cross Country championships after all.

It was a risky decision, made in December, to bring the championships to Stanmer Park again this coming Saturday as there was a chance that there would not be any parking locally. Entries for the championships, one of the most important races of the winter,  closed in December, before the F.A. cup venue was confirmed.

A Muddy Good Afternoon

“Mud Glorious Mud” welcomed the 500 runners who reported to Bexhill Down on Saturday for the first major cross-country event of the New Year, the Sussex Cross-country championships. Mud is a great leveller in cross-county events and although we did not see any surprise winners there were some unusual minor placings. The absence of several contenders through illness was obvious in several events. Both senior winners were heavily tipped before their races but they both produced intriguing battles.
