Master's Champs at Coombe Farm

Sussex try out a new cross-country course this weekend when the Sussex Masters Championships are held at Coombe Farm near Lancing on Saturday.

As the popularity of Cross-country racing has increased in Sussex over the past few years officials are eagerly searching for more courses for the Championship and League events which involve athletes in five age group at six fixtures between October and March each year.

Entries are good and all athletes this year will run a 5-mile course starting with the over M50/M60 men’sage group at 1.00.

Another Gold Medal for Richards

On a very good day for racing Ian Richards of Steyning, after his 3 Golds in Malaga, easily retained his Sussex Men’s 10,000m race walking title at Broadbridge Heath on Saturday, in 55:18.8s. Although in a slower time than last year, after receiving a couple of warnings early on in the race, he finished well clear of fellow 70 year old Paul Gaston (Surrey Walking Club) who clocked 67:59.1s.

Battles for the Masters at Lancing Monor

After the exploits of the younger elements at the Sussex Schools cross-country championships on Wednesday it is the turn of parents and grandparents on Saturday when the Sussex Masters Championships are held at Lancing Manor.

Starting at 1.00 with the Men’s M50 and M60 championships this is followed by the Women’s race which includes all three age groups.
