Record Fields at Bexhill

Nearly six hundred runners contested the second of this season’s Sussex Cross-country League event at Bexhill Down on Saturday which is a record number for the Bexhill course for a League event.

Bodywork’s Daisy Burton, who is the reigning Sussex Schools Year Seven champion, tasted first blood of the afternoon when she won the U13 1.8-mile Girls race in 12:25s over a testing but mainly firm course. She finished eight seconds clear of Eleanor Strevens from Eastbourne with East Grinstead’s Gabrielle Holland in third place a further three seconds behind.

Cross-country Relays

Provisional results from the Cross-country relays are now posted but fastest laps times are only available for the U15 and U13 age groups. The rest of the results may not be available until mid-week after Clubs have checked their names.

The senior team results have already been changed as Brighton & Hove had a “Non Sussex” runner in their team so Lewes step up to be champions ahead of Chichester and Brighton Phoenix.

The M40 title was won by Haywards Heath, M50 by Brighton & Hove and M60 by Crawley.

Fourth for Bethany and third for Year 8 Girls

Bethany Cook turned in another cracking run at the weekend when she donned the English schools vest for the International Schools Cross-country event at Margam Park, Port Talbot, Cardigan.

Probably the youngest runner in the junior (U15) girls race Cook was faced with her longest ever race at 4.2km and over the fast, tough course that included several sharp hills was not really suited to this light, long striding Moira House runner.
