Fourth for Sussex at Chelmsford

Sussex did well, by placing fourth, with their depleted senior team at the South East Inter-counties match at Chelmsford on Sunday.

Bolstered by a string of Under 20 athletes Sussex scored 671 points behind winners Essex who scored 782 points, Kent who scored 707 points and Middlesex 686 points. All teams, apart from the Hosts, struggled to field represented teams with Hampshire only sending women to the match and Surrey not managing to get a team at all.

The results look more like an area League match and there were plenty of empty lanes.

Five victories for Crawley at Yeovil

Despite losing many of their top athletes to the BUCS on Saturday the Crawley team did well to avoid the relegation area in the first of this season’s British Athletics League matches at Yeovil.

In what was a very tight Division two match just 70 points separated the top seven teams with Bournemouth winning with 322 points from Havering’s 303 with Crawley finishing just ten points adrift of Kent’s fifth place on 272 points and Crawley placing sixth ahead of Glasgow and Rugby.

Sussex fight at Kingsmeadow

Despite the difficulties in finding team managers for the Annual South East Senior Inter-County match Noel Butler and Elise Lovell did manage to get a few athletes to Kingsmeadow on Sunday to fly the Sussex Flag.

It was very much a skeleton team that struggled into sixth place of the eight competing Counties but there were some outstanding performances by Sussex athletes.
