History was made at the Sussex Combined event championships at Carshalton over the weekend when Barry and Joe Morris from Eastbourne became the first ever father and son to win Sussex championship titles at the same meeting.

Two Silvers and Bronzes for Sussex at Bedford

There were three medals but no golds for Sussex athletes at the England U15 and U17 championships at Bedford with the Sunday competitors enjoying almost continuous rain and wind.

Lizzie Korczak (Brighton & Hove), who has beaten the Sussex U17 javelin record several times this year, suffered what I believe was her first defeat of the season, in this age group, throwing 42.57m to take the silver medal in difficult conditions. Ironically she was beaten in the English championships by Scottish thrower Keira Wadddell, who is a year older, with 46.41m.

Two more golds and Junior Girls win the Championship Shield at the English Schools - Day 2 report

It was a ‘Super Saturday’ for Sussex with two more gold medals and seven additional bronzes at the English Schools’ Championships in Birmingham.

It brought Sussex’s total podium places to a magnificent 15 with a final tally of four gold, two silver and nine bronze medals. In addition the Junior Girls team won the Championship Shield as the highest points scorers for top eight finishes and the Junior Boys were second in their category.  Overall this was Sussex’s best English Schools Championships result in recent history.
