Four golds amongst Masters medal haul at Malaga

The World Masters Championships are held every two years and the event brought together over 8000 athletes from 101 countries across five continents, to compete in four stadiums in five-year age bands from age 35.  Despite the use of multiple stadiums, the atmosphere and crowds were very motivational for all taking part.

Seventh U15 league victory for Crawley

Crawley Athletic Club won their seventh Sussex U15 League final comfortably from Brighton & Hove at Withdean Stadium on Friday evening.

Leading from early in the programme they never looked like being headed and eventually finished well clear with 486 points to Brighton & Hove’s 406 point who only just managed to turn the tables on last year’s runners up, Chichester, who totalled 402 with the rest of the teams more than one hundred points adrift.

Two Silvers and Bronzes for Sussex at Bedford

There were three medals but no golds for Sussex athletes at the England U15 and U17 championships at Bedford with the Sunday competitors enjoying almost continuous rain and wind.

Lizzie Korczak (Brighton & Hove), who has beaten the Sussex U17 javelin record several times this year, suffered what I believe was her first defeat of the season, in this age group, throwing 42.57m to take the silver medal in difficult conditions. Ironically she was beaten in the English championships by Scottish thrower Keira Wadddell, who is a year older, with 46.41m.
