Mud is a great leveller in cross-county events and although we did not see any surprise winners there were some unusual minor placings. Skelton in form at Portsmouth

Ross Skelton from Hastings is currently showing his best form to date and running for Brighton Phoenix he turned in a tremendous run in the Great South Run at Portsmouth last weekend.

Storm Brian was at its most severe on the Saturday and caused the cancellation of the 5k race but Sunday, although still pretty breezy, was much milder and former European 10k silver medallist Chris Thompson from Aldershot managed to retain his title in a nippy 48:32.

Phoenix 16th Brighton & Hove 39th at Sutton Park

Brighton Phoenix and Brighton & Hove Athletic Club flew the Sussex flag at the National six-stage Road Relay championships at Sutton Park on Saturday with both clubs fielding weakened teams.

This did not prevent the Phoenix squad finishing in a highly creditable 16th place in 1hr 50m 56s.
