Sussex 10k road race at Chichester

The provisional Sussex 10k Road Race Championship results have been published revealing Ross Skelton (Brighton Phoenix) and Rebecca Moore (Southampton) as the champions.

Run in conjunction with the Chichester 10k road race at Goodwood, Skelton beat his club mate Max Dumbrell by nearly one minute as he placed fourth overall in 30:51 to Dumbrell’s fifth place in 31:47.  Local runner, Harry Leleu, was sixth overall in 32:03 to take the County bronze.

Richard Allen from Aldershot was the overall winner in 29:45 just two seconds clear of Andy Maud (Highgate).

Medals for the Masters

The more senior athletes from Sussex were also in fine form at Horspath on Saturday when they picked up several individual and team medals at the South of England Master’s cross-country championships.

Masters age groups are in five year bandings but team events for this event are in ten year bandings and in the 40-49 Women’s group there was a double victory for Arena 80 with Julie Briggs winning the overall race, despite being in the W45 group, by a handsome margin clocking 21:43 to Epsom & Ewell’s Diana Norman’s, who is in the W40 group, 22:05.

Skelton in form at Portsmouth

Ross Skelton from Hastings is currently showing his best form to date and running for Brighton Phoenix he turned in a tremendous run in the Great South Run at Portsmouth last weekend.

Storm Brian was at its most severe on the Saturday and caused the cancellation of the 5k race but Sunday, although still pretty breezy, was much milder and former European 10k silver medallist Chris Thompson from Aldershot managed to retain his title in a nippy 48:32.
