A Silver and two Bronzes for Sussex Schools at Leeds

Cracking runs from Bethany Cook and the Intermediate Girls and Senior Boys teams highlighted a tough English Schools Cross-country championships at Newsam Park, Leeds on Saturday.

Although the muddy course was thought not to be quite as bad as it was a Loughborough the previous weekend and the snow did not arrive until the end of the event they did have to battle with  vicious North East winds.

Bethany Cook and Will Broom were the only Sussex athletes to place in the top twenty of the three hundred plus athletes who contested each of the six events.

Fine running at Newbury -UPDATE -

There were top ten places for a trio of Sussex runners in the South East Schools Inter-counties match at Newbury in damp to wet and muddy conditions on Saturday.

It was Olivia Wiseman (Bishop Luffa) who chalked up the highest placing of the day when she finished an excellent fourth in the Intermediate (U17) race and there a fine runs by Alex Richer (Millias) and Lois Dooley (Shoreham) in the same race placing 18th and 23rd respectively and Milly Dickinson (Kings Hove) 26th.

Youngsters battle at Lancing Manor

It was a case of all change for the winners, in the Young Athletes races, at the third of this season's Sussex Cross-Country League matches at Lancing Manor on Saturday.

That is in all but the U13 Boy’s race where Crawley’s Nicholas Hollan-Ellidge notched up an impressive third successive win to make sure that he will be crowned League champion in February.
