Podium place for Eva at Bedford

Sussex Schools took one of its smallest teams in recent years to Bedford for the finals of the English Schools Combined Events and Race Walking Championships.

The best Sussex performance of the weekend was by race walker Eva Payton-White who won the battle for the bronze medal in the senior girls 5000m, in a personal best of 30:22.81. Unfortunately, in the senior boys race, Oli Hopkins (Sussex Downs), while chasing Hampshire’s Chris Snook, pushed a little too much and was disqualified.

Weekend action at Bedford and Malaga

The Sussex Schools all-rounders and walkers end the track season for the county at Bedford with the finals of the English Schools' Combined Events and Race Walking championships.

The Sussex squad, which has several times returned with medals or trophies, including last year when they won the Junior Boys event, is our smallest team for many years.

Medals a plenty for Sussex youngsters

Sussex youngsters scooped up a plethora of medals at the South of England U15 and U17 championships at Lee Valley over the weekend, with some twenty youngsters on the podium and four of them achieving gold.

Conditions were fairly mild for Saturday’s events but Sunday produced a strong head wind for most of the track races.
