Ross Skelton from Hastings is currently showing his best form to date and running for Brighton Phoenix he turned in a tremendous run in the Great South Run at Portsmouth last weekend.

Storm Brian was at its most severe on the Saturday and caused the cancellation of the 5k race but Sunday, although still pretty breezy, was much milder and former European 10k silver medallist Chris Thompson from Aldershot managed to retain his title in a nippy 48:32.

Skelton, whose form this season suggests that he will be in the frame for the Sussex Senior cross-country title in January, finished 11th in a high class race in 50:37.

Chris Bird (Chichester) finished 39th in 56:42.

This weekend the Arena 80’s “Hove Prom 10k” saw the title go out of the County when Stuart Holloway from Salisbury proved a clear winner on a glorious Sunday morning. Clocking 33:17 the Wiltshire athlete finished well clear of Gary Foster (Hastings) and Haywards Heath veteran James Skinner who clocked 33:41 and 33:51 respectively.

Bethan Male (Unatt) was the first woman to finish clocking 39:47 with Rachel Phelps (Lewes) recording 40:05 in second place and Katie Morgan (Haywards Heath) placing third in 40:10.
