The South of Thames “Senior” cross-country championship at Aldershot on Saturday will be the final major Cross-country race for 2017; at least as far as Sussex athletes are concerned.
Once a stepping stone to international competition it no longer holds that status but is still a good quality testing race.
A few years ago Horsham Blue Star and Worthing as well as Crawley and Brighton & Hove supported the race but this year it looks like Brighton & Hove and maybe Crawley will be travelling to Aldershot for the 7½ mile race.
Also tomorrow Archie Davis (Brighton Phoenix), following his fine ninth place in the European Trials at Liverpool a couple of weeks back, will be running in the England Under 20 team at the Venta de Banos International Cross Country meeting in Spain.
The Park Runs are likely to be the only races on the Saturday before Christmas but the oldest, apart from championship races, road races in Sussex will be held as usual on Boxing Day in Brighton’s Preston Park.
The walks that were first held in the early 1930s, will start at 10.30 while the runs, which did not start until the mid-50s will follow at 10.50.
